August 2012

I did the Original Lisbon Tour earlier this month as well as the Gourmet Walking Tour on the same day. Both guides - Joana for the Original tour and Sophia for the Gourmet one - were very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Although there was some overlap in both tours in terms of the route taken, it was well worth the time and prices as on the gourmet tour, I got to eat and drink what Joana talked about the Original tour :)
Extremely reasonably priced, with both tours costing me €36 as I got a discount for going on more than one tour. The gourmet tour in particular was, in my opinion, a steal even at the original price of €25 as it included a shot of ginginha, a glass of port, cheese and marmalade, an espresso and pasteis de Nata, a pasteis de bacalau, a beer and dinner!! All this on top of Sophia's commentary! Definitely a must-do in Lisbon!

I went on a walking tour of Lisbon with Lara, our guide and seven other travelers. Instead of walking for 3 hours, as planned, we walked for 4 hours and I didn't see time go by. It was fun, interesting, it gave us a general view of Lisbon and our guide gave us good tips on where to eat and what to visit afterwards. I would definitely recommend it! Aimee, (France)

Yesterday, my girlfriend and I joined Paolo for the food tour. He went beyond our expectations and superbly guided us to places that had been right under our noses, but sometimes impossible to see from the street. I feel very fortunate to have spent a few hours with such a knowledgeable and gracious guide, where we learned about the lifestyle and culture and some history of Lisbon, with food as a framework and guideposts. I highly recommend - ( early in your trip if possible). This was a high point of my vacation. Chris

We went on this tour a few days after we arrived in Lisbon. The tourgide was Paulo. First we couldn't find the man at the square. But he found us. He told us that there was a cancalation so we where the only one. So we had a private tour! It was so much fun. He told us a lot about lisbon, the meals and other habbits. He explained a few important things about the portugese lifestyle, which made it a lot easier to adapt. We also tasted things we wouldn't have tasted without this tour.
The tour supposed to have a durration of 3-3,5 hours, but ours took longer. We didn't mind at all. He also showed us a few good restaurants and we also went to beautifull viewingpoint. After the tour we went back to a few places we visited with him. The tour made it easier to try and eat typical portugese food. Karin, (Netherland)

July 2012

This isn't something that i would normally do but i'm so glad that i did! Paulo, the tour guide was absolutely fantastic. His knowledge of Lisbon, its history and its food was vast. I understood from the information provided when i booked that the gourmet tour would last approximately 3-4 hours but we met at 16:30 and at 10:30 we finally went our separate ways! Paulo took us all over the city and we sampled lots of local specialities in shops, a coffee bar, a beer hall, finally ending up at a local restaurant. We wandered around the maze of back streets and poked our noses into restaurants that i wouldn't have even known were there. It was a fun and informative tour, great value too. Highly recommended! (Spain)

At 4.30pm on 5/7/12 we started ‘The Gourmet Walk’ by Inside Lisbon tours with Paulo as our guide – I cannot rave enough about how much I enjoyed this. The tour was meant to go for three hours, it ended up going for five (for 25 euro, food included) and within that time I went from thinking Lisbon is a nice city to thinking Lisbon is amazing. It was a completely unique experience, learning about the history and culture of a city through it’s food. And the food – we didn’t eat anything that wasn’t incredible. It started with shots of cherry and cinnamon liqueur, moved to port wine with cheese and marmalade, then the famous Portuguese tarts with espresso, beer, beans, cod cakes, peri peri Pork, cod fish salad, flambéed chorizo, red wine…. so good! The guide certainly knew his stuff, we were hanging off his every word and I’ve added lots of little quirky facts to my knowledge base. We were happy to be leaving tomorrow but now we just want to stay an extra week to eat at all the amazing little places he showed us. A must to do in Lisbon. Adelaide,  (Australia)

I took the original Lisbon tour after reading great reviews about it on trip advisor and I wasn't disappointed. My guide Hugo, was obviously very knowledgeable about the the sights and made the tour very interesting. It was a wonderful way to start my trip and get my bearings.

A friend and I had signed up for the gourmet walking tour during our visit to Lisbon in early July. We were not disappointed! Our guide, Paolo, was very passionate about Lisbon and provided so much history about the country, and how it influenced the food. We got the opportunity to try many different typical foods of the area as we walked all over the center of the city. Our tour was supposed to last about 3 hours, but it actually was a little over 4 hours. The tour ended with a delicious sit down meal in a lovely Moorish palace. I highly recommend if you are visiting Lisbon. Tracey, (Michigan, USA)

Ane Rot (Paris, France)

Due to schedule constraints, we took the tour on our last day in Lisbon. Wrong! You should take the tour on your first day in Lisbon. We didn't appreciate Lisbon as much as after we took the tour. Paulo was a great guide. (Manila)

This walking tour was a wonderful introduction to the city. We were a small group, myself, two other visitors to Lisbon, and two guides! Joana and Lara were the kind of guides you want for a tour like this--knowledgeable, interesting, and friendly. And because we were a small group, there was a lot of interaction between us and the guides. That made it feel almost like a private tour.

The guides did something I haven't experienced on other walking tours--they sent us inside a couple places and waited outside for us. On a lot of walking tours, you don't get to go inside places, so that was a treat. And it was a thoughtful way for them to get a short break, while we tourists could spend time looking around and taking pictures without feeling like we were slowing things down. (USA)

Hi, I did the original lisbon tour on july 13 with Hugo. Thanks for a most interesting visit with many insights in Portuguese culture and history. It definitely is a must, even if you already know the town. It has somehow changed my vision of Lisbon and made it even more endearing to me. I must stress also the great quality of the guide. Thanks! Alain V, (France)

My family and I had a fantastic time on our tour. Our guide, Martha, was very knowledgeable and had plenty of information to share with us about many different places and historical events that are part of Lisbon's history. I recommend this tour, which is about 3.5 hours long to anyone who enjoys walking long distances and seeing an array of different types of locations. Martha also pointed out some good places to eat, get a snack, etc. Overall a very helpful and delightful tour with a very polite and smart tour guide. A. (San Francisco - California)

We did the Original Lisbon City Walk which lasted for about 3,5 hours and cost 15 euros. Very much worth the price! We learned so much about the city and its history. The guides were very knowledgeable, friendly, and they spoke excellent English. We got information about the walking tour from our hotel. They also have a web site (www.lisboncitytours.com). No reservation was needed. You only had to show up to the meeting point at 10 o'clock in the morning. Tony (Helsinki, Finland)

Discovering the wonders of Lisbon under the guide of Maria was a highlight of my time in Portugal. The city's history and sights are nothing short of incredible and Maria took the time to share with us her knowledge of what is a beautiful place. Maria also showed us where we could find cheap, but good eats, away from the tourist traps and amongst the locals. I highly recommend this tour for anyone who enjoys walking, doesn't mind having a shot at 10am and wants to know a little more about an often forgotten city. Christine and Bianca

Was really well planned and very clearly explained. Despite having a very large group we we able to ask questions very easily and it really gave us a core introduction to Lisbon which gave us greater familiarity with key areas and ideas of further sites to visit in the remainder of the week we were in Lisbon. Would definitely recommend. It was a bit longer than expected but that was largely due to a few stragglers in a very large group. Ric (London, UK)

June 2012

My wife and I decided to spend a weekend at the edge of Europe, in the beautiful city of Lisbon. As usual, we began our stay with a guided tour aimed to discover the city through the eyes of a local. We were very lucky to meet Sofia as a guide. She was very nice, very informative and helpful with a lot of tips about the city life. Three amazing hours! We really recommend Inside Lisbon for guided tours and Sofia, who was fabulous! Enza, (Italy)

Peter M. (London)

I had a wonderful time having Maria as our tour guide yesterday. She has a very rich knowledge on the city's history and speaks English fluently. I took the traditional Lisbon Walk and we wrapped up everything in 4 hourss!! It was supposed to be for 3 hours but we did short stop on several local favorites food and tried them:) i really recommend this tour for someone who wants to know Lisbon more than just the tourist attraction spots. Thanks Maria! Theresia F.

We took the walking tour of Lisbon with Joana. It was an excellent tour and we found out so much about Lisbon which would have taken days to discover otherwise. Joana enthusiasm and pride for her home town was infectious. I would thoroughly recommend you take a walking tour on your first day and then you can plan the rest of your stay based on the information and locations visited. (UK)

My sister and I recently had the privilege of being the only two travellers on a half day walk through parts of Lisbon with Margarida. We loved her passion for the history of both Lisbon and Portugal, her warmth, friendliness, willingness to answer all kinds of questions and her most unusual insights into the Portugeuse. We learned lots about the city, where to eat, its history, and more than anything it gave us a taste of a 'local' perspective. Thank you very much Margarida, I have no hesitation in recommending you as a guide to anyone who goes to Lisbon. Michel (Cape Town - South Africa)

What a wonderful tour! Lovely, fun and full of in depth knowledge our guide Maria was a delight! As well as providing great commentary on our tour she was also full of helpful information and went out of her way to make our stay in lisbon a fantastic one. Recommend it to anyone wanting an overview of this gorgeous city. Anna (Brisbane - Australia)

We had Margarida as our guide on the walking tour through chiado/ alfama. We learnt so much history from margarida about our surroundings - from fountains, statues and walls to cafes and churches. Margarida is extremely warm, funny and informative and so learned and coherent about lisbon and portugal. We'd previously walked through parts of downtown Lisbon on our own but it was the walking tour that really gave significance and meaning to everything. Highly recommended! Lee

We did the Original Lisbon tour with Margarida. We believe walking tours are always a great way to see a city, and Margarida was excellent. She had great historical and contemporary local knowledge, was charming and pleasant at every turn, and made the event enjoyable. While scheduled as a three-hour tour, Margarida's enthusiasm and willingness to share her love for Lisbon, her local knowledge and tips, and her willingness to answer questions made it closer to a four-hour tour. She kept apologizing for the tour running too long, but our family and the two other couples who were on the tour that day were all of the same opinion -- we were getting a great value for our money and her willingness to extend the tour was a bonus for us. Chevy Chase (USA)

Thanks Margarida for helping to make our late-June summer trip to Lisbon so successful. The walking tour was a perfect way to get our bearings around your beautiful city and thanks for all the tips given on drinking, restaurants, drinking, festivals, transport, drinking and so on. Sorry we couldn't do a little better with the 'Margarida Quiz' :-). Highly recommended. Mike and Phebe  (London)

A great start to touring Lisbon is to start with a guided walking tour especially when your guide is Margarida. Booking was easy via email and no advance payments to make. They arranged a private tour even though there was only 12 of us, which meant that all of us could hear clearly and could ask plenty of questions. Margarida, our guide, had excellent knowledge and delivered her comments in an interesting and enthusiastic way. She never once hurried our time at the various sites even though this meant that the tour lasted nearly 4 hours rather than the original 3 hours arranged. The views, architecture and history was fantastic although the hills of Lisbon left my legs pretty tired afterwards. Great value too - 14 euros each and this even included a free tram ride up to Alfama. (London)

Loved the tour. Nadia was an excellent guide. Her passion for the history of this beautiful city and his extensive knowledge made this a one of a kind experience. This private tour (3,5 hours) was wonderful (a good investment!) as it allowed me to ask many questions and spend the amount of time desired at the various places. I learned so much about the Carnation Revolution and the important part of Portugal in world history. It was a good way too to get oriented to the city and learn lots of facts, not just about history, but the city in general, included restaurant and pub (fado!) recommendations. We also used public transport, the tickets were included. I was so glad I began my short trip to Lisbon with Nadia's walk. (Amsterdam)

I was lucky enough to be the only person on the Inside Lisbon Walking tour on the morning of 27th June and was guided by a delightful young lady, Joana Flora and a young man who was "in training". Both these tour guides were very knowlegable and passionate, and went out of their way to show me the hidden treasures of Lisbon, as well as give me an insight into life in Portugal. Sandra, (Madrid - Spain)

“Toller Rundgang”

Sehr viele wertvolle Tips. B., Schweiz

We started our long weekend in Lisbon with Inside Lisbon's Gourmet Walking Tour and we were not disappointed. Our guide, Paolo, really knows food and especially Portuguese food and it's history, preparation, etc. We had 3 children with us (11, 14, 15) and although they were a little bored during the times we stood around and talked about different parts of food history, they generally liked the tour and were able to sample everything (except the alcohol). We returned to several of the places our guide recommended and our long weekend was definitely much more enjoyable than it would have been otherwise if we didn't start with this tour.

Took the tour with Margarida and all four of us thoroughly enjoyed it.She was excellent and encouraged you to ask questions as you went round. Given that Lisbon is hilly a tram ride was included. A coffee break was also made which broke up the walk. I would recommend this to anyone visiting Lisbon. Stuart - United Kingdom

We did Lisbon experience walk and The Original Lisbon walk with Paulo who was really knowledgeable, he took us to lots great places and told us about Portuguese history during the whole trip, it was fantastic trip, these tours are the best way to see everything you want, I highly recommend it to everyone! Mag - San Francisco California

Took the tour with Margarida on our very first day in Lisbon and thoroughly enjoyed it. A fascinating introduction to the city, it's history and places of interest. Great fun. Not too long. A lovely way to discover the non-touristy bits. Do it! Clare - London United Kingdom

You can not go wrong with Inside Lisbon tours. My wife and I just got back from a trip to Spain and Portugal yesterday and want to share the positive experiences we had with Inside Lisbon. Tours were excellent. Guides were very knowledgeable, caring and service oriented. Had an great time on a walking tour with Maria. Tour lasted longer than stated, because Maria responded to the needs of the group. For those older or a little out of share, remember Lisbon has hills and the locals are use to walking at a good pace. That evening we booked a Gourmet tour and had the pleasure to be teamed up Paulo. Lisbon has so much to offer in food and culture experiences, that if we did this again we would of booked a private tour. Its not that Paulo did not do a great job, it just there is so much and so little time. Lastly, we booked a private day tour to Fatima, Obidos and Sintra with Luis. Luis is a walking history book and I only wish I had more time with him. Trying to see three cities in one day is too much. Obidos was a charming village and worth the trip. Luis recommended a great place for lunch and the Octopus was fablous!! Unfortunately, Sintra was at the end of the day and we would of liked to spend more time there. We were looking for ceramic tiles and Sintra had the best tiles we seen in Portugal and Spain. Fatima was too far out of the way and we spend too much time traveling and well, would of rather spent our time in either Sintra or Obidos. All in all - Inside Lisbon is one of the best travel groups we have experienced in Protugal, Spain or Italy. Could not ask for more...(except for online payment) Had some problems and it finally worked out with the help of Nadine. Thank You Inside Lisbon!!!

April 2012

This was a terrific introduction to Lisbon. My wife and I very much enjoyed this walk (Original Lisbon Walk). The guide, Margarida was very friendly and informative. The short trip and the tram was a great idea. It was a great introduction to the city and we revisited the areas later at our own pace. It was very informative without being in any way strenuous. George - Ireland

A fantastic afternoon/evening spent sampling the delights of Lisbon and a pleasure to have such a knowledgeable tour guide. I would strongly recommend taking part in this tour (Gourmet Walk) at the beginning of your stay as you get a very good insight into some lovely restaurants worth eating at. Jane - US

Karl-Heinz, Deutschland

I just returned from the Original Walk with Maregareida and I wanted to say how thoroughly I am enjoyed the tour. Maggie was extremely knowledgeable , providing both a wealth of historical information about Lisbon, as well as interesting stories and insights into contemporary life in Lisbon. Moreover she was really friendly and warm, and went out of her way to make sure everyone was enjoying themselves. I would definitely recommend other travellers take this walking tour to get acquianted with Lisbon, and to get a good general understanding of Lisbon's and Portugal's history and culture. Rachel R. - Sydney Australia

Our guide Paolo did an excellent job. He shared a perfect balance of Portuguese food & wine history, funny facts and showed our 12 person group wonderful restaurants and gourmet shops in Lisbon. Perfectly paced, he kept us entertained and informed. Money well spent--take this tour--you'll be thankful you did! Michigan

Today we joined Paulo for the "Old Lisbon" tour. It was fantastic. Paulo gave us a great insite into the city and its history. He kept us entertained for the whole trip and had an extensive knowledge of the city and Portugal. I could keep raving about how good this tour was but best advice is - do thsi tour - you wont be dissapointed. John - Australia

March 2012

The tours route and historical content were great. But what made it magical was Sofia Frazoa, the tour guide. Her positive energy and passion for her home and her city come through. A very intuitive guide that is in touch with the heartbeat of the city and it's inhabitants. She provided a magical 3.5 hours of interesting history and facts about the Lisbon and Portugal of the past and the present. I highly recommend this tour. It is by far the best value in Lisbon. Jefre - Texas US

Paulo has helped make this a fantastic city break. He was there to meet us bang on time and for the next few hours maintained an energy and a flow of engaging information that was brilliant. He brought Lisbon to life for us and revealed many secrets that no number of guidebooks would have revealed. Historical, food and general Lisbon life was all revealed in a very friendly manner. Tempted to book him again! Highly recommended. United Kingdom

February 2012

Visiting all the important sites and attractions of Lisbon within reach of the city center, this tour with Sofia was pleasent from start to finish. Very interesting comments sharing the historical aspects of Lisbon from the 16th century up to recent times... Well done, highly recommended! Marc - Switzerland

Joana was an excellent guide who provided our small groups with lots of history, interesting facts, and recommendations of places to go. She was happy to answer everyone's questions, and did so with a smile on her face. Definitely helped me understand the layout of the city better, and I was happy I went on the tour soon at the beginning of my stay in Lisbon. Josh - New York City

My family and I enjoyed an excellent guided walking tour through the old part of Lisbon on 11 February. Our guide, Margaricla, was superb. She was friendly and knowledgeable and catered the tour to our needs as we had a two-year-old who both walked and rode in a pushchair. I highly recommend this. Steve - Birmingham United Kingdom

We had a great 4 hour walking tour with Margaracla (Maggie). She was so informative and she had a good understanding of the history of Lisbon and was a local. We got great tips for eating out and coffee in non tourist places! She was so friendly and we went back to many places we walked pas. Geof - Wellington New Zealand

Hi there! I just wanted to let you know that we thoroughly enjoyed the walking tour on Saturday – it really exceeded our expectations as we learnt so much more than just about food. Paulo was brilliant! Thank you - Angela Rademeyer

Went on 4 tours with your company of which 3 were with Paulo. It was great like walking with a friend, very informative - Alex Censor, Melbourne Australia

France

Great walking tour. Highly recommend as an introduction to your stay in Lisbon as it provides an excellent background and road map for the rest of your stay. Loved it. Our guide was Margarida, simply charming. New York City

Nochmals Dank an Maria.- Thomas, Dresden

I have done 4 tours with your company- they have been outstanding!

Yesterday (3/12) I did the Old Lisbon Tour in the morning and the Gourmet Tour later, with Paulo. All I can say its....amazing. It was the most fantastic day, and Paulo was so generous with his time, spending well beyond the hours required. He really showed me Lisbon as I could never have seen it, and so much so that I am in love with your city. But I really want the focus to be on your guides, Sofia, Gustavo, and Paulo who were all fantastic. I did the Original Tour with Sofia- it was fantastic! I've been travelling around Europe since September and have done quite a few guided tours in various cities, and so far Sofia has been the best guide! Thanks Sofia for a wonderful morning- I will now remember Lisbon as that city with the best guide. Please pass on my thanks to Paulo, he was not only a great guide, but all round lovely person to meet. Thanks, Jodi Meyers

Jederzeit gern wieder. - Thomas, Leipzig

We just wanted you to know what an outstanding walking tour we had with our guide, Sophia. Her knowledge and passion for Portugal was commendable. She was very personable and always checked with us if we had any questions. We highly recommend her services as a tour guide. Sincerely, Chris and Arnold Gregg

Joan & Dolors

Hello,

I wanted to thank you for the sunset fado tour on saturday, and for Nadia's gracious company and advice regarding lisboan nightlife. We found out lisboans are fun, generous and easygoing! If she's ever in bergen ill repay her services:) Best regards, Petter Alexander Olsen

Many thanks to Joana for an informative and interesting tour of Lisbon.  She was very knowledgeable and happy to answer our questions and give us tips on  our stay in Lisbon.  Would recommend Insidelisbon tours and certainly are value for money.  Wish we could have done more of the tours. Barb, Tasmania

June 2011

Booking a tour with Inside Lisbon was very easy and the communication was very good. (I booked the tour several months in advance.) The tour was everything promised on the website, and more! We have found the best way to get to know a city, it's history, culture and culinary traditions is through a walking food tour. Paulo was a terrific guide and had a great rapport with the restaurant/bar owners. We enjoyed so many tastings (port, cherry brandy, custard tarts, cod cakes, beans and beer) and then shared traditional Portuguese dishes as a group (sausages, codfish salad, wine). Paulo was very knowledgeable of the area and the country's history and also offered suggestions for places we should visit and dine. Would highly recommend INSIDE LISBON to anyone visiting the city! (Florida)

We enjoyed the Alfama walking tour with Paulo so much that we rearranged some of our plans so we could join his "imperial" tour the next day! Paulo is not only extremely knowledgeable about sites in Lisbon as well as Portuguese history, but also clearly enjoys teaching others about his city. These attributes combine to make his walking tours an extremely informative and enjoyable experience.(New York City)

May 2011

Thanks Hugo for a fascinating walk through the old part of Lisbon. I did not feel like a tourist, but like a visitor to a friend's neighbourhood. So many unexpected and rewarding sights. The walk through the narrow streets of Alfama was truly an experience not to be missed. What a privilege! Thank you also for the recommendation for the restaurant, where we had a delicious lunch after the walk. And thank you for your concern about my unfortunate friend who lost his camera. Everyone I have met in Lisbon has been warm and helpful, it must be one of the most welcoming and friendly cities in Europe! Regards, Noreen Chan, Singapore

On the Old Lisbon walk, Paulo covered everything from centuries of history to current restorations and archaelogical findings in an interesting way that gave us a sense of Lisbon culture. Thank you Paulo! Chris and Dale, USA

Thank you Paulo for a most interesting and educational walk! I have never had such a wide-ranging commentary - not just history and culture, but also architecture, politics, economy, globalisation, even cooking! It was truly an insider's look, better than any guide book. And Pasteis de Belem is amazing. Two days after the walk, I had the chance to have lunch in Belem with friends and was able to introduce them to the cafe and the pasteis. A memorable experience! Best wishes, Noreen Chan, Singapore

We did the gourmet tour with Paulo. It was everything promised and then some. You do get to taste all the items promised on the Inside Lisbon site, and then some. But, the best thing about the tour was the guide himself. He is passionate about his country and city and very knowledgeable about how Portugal's history shaped its cuisine. He's got great inside knowledge about the Lisbon food scene and can tell you lots about where to shop and dine. We were in a small group who asked lots of questions--this didn't bother Paulo at all. In fact, we went well beyond the scheduled tour time because everyone was so interested. This isn't just a tasting tour--you will learn a lot about Portugal and Lisbon. I highly recommend it.

Hello, we did the gourmet tour with Paulo on 14/5/11 and just wanted to say how much we enjoyed this! It exceeded our expectations - it was entertaining, informative and deilcious! We felt we gained an insight in the Portuguese culture in terms of the history and current traditions and we certainly discovered some hidden gems that we returned to later during our visit. Paulo was a fantastic guide and sold the city to us - we'd love to move here! We also thought the tour was excellent value for money and would recommend it to anyone. Cheers, Jane & Adam

We did a Gourmet Food Tour in Lisbon last week (with Hugo) and it was very enjoyable - he is a competent and friendly guide who took us to many places and patiently answered my questions. The only recommendation is perhaps to skip the visit to the food hall: maybe the soups of Portugal could be shown elsewhere. Obrigado KEVIN WHITE

April 2011

Dear Sirs, I join the Saturday 26/03/11 Lisbon Gourmet tour with Paulo. Apart of walking us around tasting and explaining things, Paulo was of great help giving me a lot of info about traditional products and dishes. I really enjoyed, learned and loved that tour. Paulo is a great guide. I hope he would read these lines. Thanks for waiting for me under the rain!!). Regards, Diana Velasquez Plata, Italy

My wife and I had the pleasure of accompanying Claudia on a walk in Lisbon last week (April 25th). We found her to be an extraordinary guide. She was very knowledgeable and kept us interested thjroughout the walk. We saw much more than we expected when we started the walk. Janet & Don Steig. South Orange, NJ, USA

We took the original Lisbon Walking tour with Patricia and were impressed on how interesting our tour guide was able to show the city, considering, we were with very little sleep, she kept us wide awake. Will recommend to everyone I know going to Lisbon! Alex Pasek, US

Last Saturday, April 16th my wife and I had the best time doing the Gourmet Tour with Paulo as our guide. Paulo was a lot of fun and we really appreciated all the time he spent with us showing us the local food traditions and explaining their origins.  He also went a step further and gave us a ton of insight into the different neighborhoods and a lot of the buildings and restaurants/vendors.  I recommend this tour to anyone who likes food and anyone who enjoys being a tourist while eating food!  This was the most fun we had in Lisbon during our trip! Thanks again for a great time! Best regards, Steve

Hello. My Fiance and I did the walking tour on 12/03/11 with Claudia and thought it was excellent. Claudia was very knowledgeable and a wonderful guide and we would have no hesitation in recommending the tour to others. Regards, George

I want to inform you that we had a terrific tour with Paulo. Apart form his excellent command of the English language he is easy going. We enjoyed the tour very much. We will centainly recommend him to our friends travelling to Lisbon. Kind regards. Sabine Bischof from Switzerland

Very interesting trip with a guide who made it even more interesting. Not one boring moment :) Loved it. Thanks for the trip. Nora

March 2011

We spend a really wonderfull in Lisbon on the last 27-28 of February, largely due to two excellent experience with Inside Lisbon walking tours. On the Saturday, we had the "Original Lisbon Walk" with Patricia. A lot of variety in this tour makes it seem both short & long but definetely very good. It was an excellent introduction to Lisbon, with lots of details given and pointers for further exploration. Thanks for passionate and lively descriptions & anecdotes on the city + the advice for the restaurant was excellent :-) On Sunday we had the "Empire Lisbon Walk" with Paulo. It was a bit different as we had also walked most of the area already, so we were looking for more details on the historical side. We were not disapointed at all, and  really enjoyed the wide historical brief on the city & the country, as well as the various anecdotes to make it even more lively (it triggered my curiosity & I followed Paulo's advice in reading Martin Page's "First Global Village" book which was an excellent pointer). Thanks for a cool, friendly & very instructing walk, with  a special reminder for the "Pasteis De Belen" which we were about to miss ! Overall excellent experience, thanks to InsideLisbon ! Regards, Thierry & Helene

Hi, Just to let you know that my wife and I enjoyed our walk on Sat 12th March very much. The tour of Lisbon was lovely and our guide, Claudia was very knowledgeable and interesting. She made the whole tour a memorable experience. Derek Collins (UK)

I spent 5 days in Lisboa and took 3 of your tours.  They were all outstanding!
Patricia led the walking tour and was so knowledgable aboutthe city and the history.
I went on a day trip with Goncalo to Sintra. He was so helpful in a million ways plus he told us of a gret restaurant and gave me excellent info for my trip to the Algarve.  The day was very relaxed enjoyable and we learned so much.
Paulo took us all over the city and allowed us to try typical foodand drinks plus he gave us lots of good info.  All in all I would highly recommend yourtours.  I hope to come back again! -  Sharon Spear

February 2011

We had Claudia last Friday for a over 4 hour walking tour. She was funny, well informed and guided us perfectly through the maze of the old city. I can warmly recommend her. Gerald Seidl

Hello!
My name is Yana. I was on 3 tours in Lisbon in January. And now I would like to give a review on work of the guides. As I'm a guide too (in Saint-Petersburg), I hope, this review will be more professional ;)
The first tour was on 22/01/2011 "Old Lisbon". Unfortunately I've lost the visit card, so I don't remember the name of the guide. He's not tall, quite younf with moustache and beard, wearing glasses.
As for the tour, the tour is very interesting and 3 hours are pretty enough to see the best thongs in the old part of Lisbon. It's very nice not only to walk, but to use an old tram. New perfect experience. The guide was very intellectual, knew a lot of inretesting things about the town. We walked up and down, turning to the left and to the right. It seemed to me, the guide lives there. He was taking to orientate like a duck to water. Sometimes we were walking very fast, and I didn't have enough time to make photos. But generally I liked the tour and I appreciate the guide very much.
The second tour was on 23/01/2011 "Empire Lisbon" with Joana.
The tour with Joana lasted for 5 hours. As I was alone, she took me to those places, where during high season her groups only stopped for a while. We went inside the castle. We were inside the museum in the monastery watching mummies. We spent some time sitting and drinking coffee, and speaking about different things in Portugal. Joana is very nice, smart, knowledgeable and kind. It was one of the best tours I've ever had.
The third tour was on 24/01/2011 "Sintra and Cascais" with Patrick.
It's really very nice to see so many beatiful places in such a short time. Patrick stopped several times to give us an opportunity for the better view or just to admire something. Patrick speaks fluent English. And his manner to give us information is entertaining. Being a guide I also prefer this form of guiding, as it never makes tourists be bored. They stay curiois and vivid. Patrick is very nice and talkative. He did his best to show us the beauty of his country. Actually, I would like to go to Porugal once more, and to stay in Sintra for some days.

Thanks for doing your job so good!
Best wishes, Yana

January 2011

Hi Paulo. I know that you would like to get some feedback on our experience in Lisbon last weekend. So here it goes. We had done no prior reading on Lisbon, and were thus horribly unpreprepared for our trip. Paulo provided us with the perfect introduction to the city. His knowledge and enthusiasm was impressive. It was so good that we did three walking trips with Paulo! Paulo spent so much time with us that we felt we really got to know him. He is welcome to contact us anytime when in London or Cape Town, as we would like to have a drink with him again. Kind regards. Sadulla & Nazeera

Last summer I had a group tour with one of your guides, Claudia.  I was the only person on the tour and ended up getting a very personalized and wonderful tour around Lisbon.  Claudia was very knowledgeable and insightful and it was one of the highlights of my few days in Lisbon.  I just wanted to compliment Claudia on all her knowledge and insight as well as her very friendly and professional matter.  I learned a lot about Lisbon and truly enjoyed myself. Lara - Washington, DC

Boa noite! Dora Carvalho.

We took two tours with Paulo, the Gourmet (15/1) and the Empire Tour (16/1) both were fantastically insightful and entertaining. Paulo is a walking encyclopedia and a great story teller, and the hours passed way too fast. Thanks to Paulo and Inside Lisbon we found places we would have never discovered ourselves. Whenever we will be returning to Lisbon, be sure we will come back to you for more! My best - Sascha

This is just a note (long delayed!) to give very positive feedback on the walking tour your Paulo conducted on the history of the portugese empire etc on 20/10/10.I quite enjoyed it and was also impressed with his thorough knowledge of the subjects covered. Regards - Damien Grealy (Queensland, Australia)

My husband and I signed up for 3 Inside Lisbon tours last September.  We thought the idea of small group tours was perfect for our first trip to Portugal.  We couldn't have been more pleased with our choice.  The gourmet tour with Paulo was outstanding and gave us a wonderful introduction to the food and associated culture of the country.  Paula Taveres gave us a great insight to Lisbon during our walking tour of the city.  Each representative was very knowledgeable and we felt like we got to know each guide.  We can heartily recommend any tour with Inside Lisbon - Susan Commisso

December 2010

To Whom it May Concern. I am writing to say that we had a wonderful tour with Patricia today at 10 am. She was informative, thorough, punctual, pleasant and very helpful to everyone in the group. I went with a friend from the United States and she also gives Patricia a rave review! We know so much more about Lisboa due to Patricia, and we will recommend her to the people who own the place we are staying at, the Casa do Bairro -  Marina, US

Hola! Me parecio excelente! Gracias - Elsa Gonzalez

Hi there: We took the gourmet walking tour and would definitely recommend it. The guide Paulo was very informative and provided us with excellent information. The food and drink samples were also very good and very enjoyable. Robert Adam

My husband and I had the extreme pleasure of attending a tour headed by Hugo Pires.  This is a young man full of knowledge, understanding, compassion and honesty.  We only hope that some archeological firm will offer him a lucrative and interesting job! Kris & Klaus Rendulic, Austria

November 2010

My husband and I took the walking tour with Claudia on 22 November.  She was very knowledgeable, happy and thoughtful.  We fully enjoyed the tour and now I feel the history of Portugal and Lisbon closer to me. We went back to Alfama in the evening to enjoy Fado show.  I want to learn more about the country and come back to Portugal to see more places. Thank you, Claudia!Rieko and Jun - Japan

Hello, Myself and my 3 friends completed the The Original Lisbon Walk last Sat 6th Nov with Patricia. The walk was absolutely terriffic and great value. Patricia was an excellent guide and very friendly and informative. I would recommend using Inside Lisbon to any of my friends or family who are planning a visit to Lisbon. Thanks for making our stay truly enjoyable. Regards, Deirdre, Dublin

October 2010

Oktober. Regina, Deutschland

We had a nice walktour with Joana on monday 26.10.The guide was very kind; the group was small but wanted to discuss a lot. So Joana let us talk and ask and patiently aanswered our several quentions. So the walk lasted four and half an hour. After the walk tour it was easy to find good places to eat and interested places to visit.Thank you very much! Jarmo Siltaoja from Finland

We had a wonderful tour and a wonderful tour guide, Hugo.  He was helpful, friendly and above all very knowledgeable about all aspects of the tour.I would thoroughly recommend both the tour and the tour guide. It is only a pity that we did not have enough time to do more of these excellent tours. Sandra

On Wednesday  we were 6 elderly women together with CLAUDIA in the city of Lisboa. She was a charming woman. She was very knowing and had a good way to give on her information: culture, history, small anecdotes etc. The tempo was OK.We had time for looking, visiting, for a cup of coffee.  She stayed with us rather 4 than 3 hours . We felt we learned a lot. Ellen Friling

Gourmet walking: very interested subject, rarely seen; perfect English; excellent guidance; excellent price/value -ratio. Rainer Vallius Riitta Laukkanen

My sister and I joined your Original walking tour on 12/10/2010 and spent the day learning and seeing so much! Hugo’s knowledge about Lisbon and Portuguese history was absolutely astonishing, and his charm and sense of humour is something to be appreciated. We were so impressed with your company that we subsequently booked a second tour – this time my husband and I went on the Day trip to Sintra and Cascais. Again your guide Bela impressed us with her formidable knowledge and charming personality. In spite of the fact that there were three languages being spoken in our group, she kindly obliged and answered all our questions patiently. Both guides were excellent ambassadors for your country. We thoroughly enjoyed both these tours and would really recommend them as EXCELLENT value for money. Greetings from sunny South Africa! Daleen van Blerk

Today we (party of 2) thoroghly enjoyed our Original Lisbon walk with Sofia. She was not only knowledgeable and informative, but absolutely pleasant to be with. We learned so much and as first time visitors to Lisbon we feel we could not have picked a better tour and Sofia was the perfect guide. We felt we were with a knowledgeable local friend. We will recommend Inside Lisbon to our friends at home. Obrigado, Bob Greenberg

I'd like to express my thanks to Paulo who took my family and I on the Empire walk tour on 10/10. The tour was the best I've ever been on- Paulo was exceptionally knowledgeable about all aspects of Portuguese history, and particularly everything concerning Portuguese imperialism. Not only that, our guide was full of 'inside' knowledge about Lisbon, and pointed out a cafe with brilliant views over the city that we would otherwise never have found- Paulo even took time out after the tour to enjoy some pasteis de belem with us! Needless to say after the tour both my head and my stomach were full. Thanks Paulo! Tom (London)

September 2010

Arlete, Brasil

The walk was thorough and I learned a lot about Lisbon - I got a feel for the layout, streets, history etc... Hugo was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and  a pleasant young man I will happily recommend the tour/company to anyone I meet who is going to Lisbon. Love and light, Russell

Ruth, David y Mar, Spain

Hugo, we already expressed how informative and enriching was our experience with you during our 'stretched' three hour tour of Lisbon on this past Tuesday. While we were a small group of seven, your efforts to expand our understanding of Portugal and Lisbon was time well spent by us (and, hopefully, profitable and interesting to you.) As I suggested, few Americans know much about Portugal. I am very widely traveled (including several times in Brazil and one visit to Macao), but I learned much about Portugal during our time with you. Thank you for your investment of time and energy that you gave us. I will highly recommend your services on the various travel web sites. Tom, US

Dear Inside Lisbon Team, The Gourmet Walk was the best experience of our 10-day Lisboa Trip so far. We enjoyed the good food selection and the tons of information around the culture and the city. The Guide was very good and answered patiently all of our questions, even when he had to do extra hours. To make it short, we would recommend this trip to anyone who is new to the city and the local cousine. The perfect tour to start a lisbon vacation. Lars + Katja, Dresden, Germany

I took the original Lisbon tour on 9/11. Maria did a great job. She was very informative and knowledgeable. She was very nice, friendly and basically a pleasant person to be around. Regards, David, Philadelphia PA

August 2010

We did the Original Lisbon Walking tour with Claudia.  It was a fantastic tour and Claudia was very informative and made the tour extremely enjoyable.  This was our second tour with Inside Lisbon and we got a discount for this tour.  I would most definitely recommend this tour to anyone that visits Lisbon.  It is a must and extremely interesting.  Thank you so much Claudia for all your helpful tips along the way and the great recommendations for restaurants, ice cream etc.
Lynn and Jason, Dublin, Ireland.

Altamente recomendable. Luis, Espanha

My wife and I undertook a walking tour of Lisbon City with Claudia yesterday, and a one day driving tour of Sintra and Cascais with Patrick today. We thoroughly enjoyed both tours and would have no hesitation recommending both tours to anyone. Your tour guides are not only professional, but they obviously love their city  and their job and both were great ambassadors. But they were also knowledgeable guides and great hosts and we were sorry to part company with them at the end of the tour. Ian and Lyn, Perth, Australia

July 2010

We went on a walking tour of Lisbon on the 15th July 2010 with Alexia. We found Alexia to be very knowledgable and we definitely learnt a lot about the city. Alexia was approachable and relaxed and made learning about Lisbon enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this walking tour to other people. Thanks for the experience. Regards, Deanne and Kate, Australia

June 2010

We were on holiday in Lisbon on Monday 28th June and went on an original Walking Tour with Paulo. My wife and I both thought is was first class, the best we've ever been on. Paulo made it extremely interesting and had a very good delivery, waited to let everybody catch up before starting to talk and gave us a mass of interesting information. It lasted three and a half hours but we were not the slightest bit tired at the end as it was so interesting. Please convey our thanks to him and also his young lady assistant whose name I'm afraid I've forgotten (Lydia?) - Arnold and Jane Melhuish

Hi. I have just returned from 4 days in beautiful Lisbon and wanted to commend your company on two excellent walking tours. Hugo and Paulo guided us through Lisbon on the Original Tour on day one, the attention to detail and enthusiasm coupled with Paulo's humour made it a great learning experience, one we could not have had had we tried to find out ourselves. The 2nd trip led by Paulo on the Imperial Tour was also well run, informative, interesting and humorous, although myself and my friend Simon were the only two on that tour that day, Paulo didn't rush the tour and showed us things that a larger group would have found too difficult with the time constraints to do. Lisbon is a fabulous city and would recommend anyone to go, and especially use Inside Lisbon to learn the history behind the people and the city. Once again thanks for a very enjoyable experience, and my thanks go out especially to Paulo. Please pass on my comments and thanks to him. Lloyd Hodges

Me gustó mucho.

Saludos, Rauf Chazzaoui, Caracas - Venezuela

Hi. Just wanted to thank you for the great tour around Lisbon my family and i received on July 2nd. The tour guide Patricia was very informative and made everyone feel very welcome. If we ever come back to Lisbon we will be sure to book another tour. Thanks again. John Harper

They where the perfect walkingtours and I can absolute recommand them. I appreciated it very much, that the tours took place, even though I was the only participant. Paulo was a very professionel, charming and entertaining guide. "In short time" I got a lot of information about the history of Lissabon and how it is today, saw lots of places of interest and their particular stories. The Original tour lasted 4 hours - even though I was just the only one. Because of the good impression, I also took the Empire-Walk and again it was very much worth Doing it. Thank you very much and all the best to you. Best regards. Bea

Marta Montoya

We were very pleased with Alexia's "Original Lisbon Walk" on Saturday, June 19.  She was informative, interesting, and personable.  We particularly enjoyed seeing the narrow passageways of the Alfama neighborhood.  She spent plenty of time with us and provided us with an excellent introduction on our first day in Lisbon. Thank you, Jay Helms and Terry O'Loughlin

We took this tour the other week and we thought it was brilliant, looking at buildings we would have just walked past and Paulo certainly brought  history to life.  Thank you Paulo. Jenny Acott and Peter Randall

We arrived for the original Lisbon tour to find we were the only two to turn up. We had a lovely guide, Alexia, who told us it was her first tour.  Despite that we found her to be very informed and she took us to sights that we would have simply walked past on our own.  The tour was very comprehensive and took in most of the areas of the city that we wanted to see.  It was certainly worth doing and we would not hesitate to recommend it - Joan and Matt, Northumberland, England

I want to thank Charlotte for the very nice visit of Lisbon we had with her yesterday, sonday the 6th of june. Brigitte

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 hour walking tour around Lisbon with Charlotte. She made the whole experience very interesting and informative. We would definitely recommend this walking tour to visitors. Best wishes. Diane and John Perkins from UK/Spain

A quick email to thank you SO much for giving us such a fabulous tour of Lisbon with Paulo last week. He really knows his stuff and made the tour interesting and enjoyable. We went into buildings we otherwise would have walked straight passed. Fabulous, scenic spot for lunch – yet so reasonable. Paulo aware that we needed to get back to the shuttle bus by a certain time and made sure we did so even though he could probably have shown us areas in greater depth and talked more about the ‘old town’ in greater detail! Fabulous value-for-money quality tour. THANK YOU PAULO! - Deborah Bateman

May 2010

Thank you for a wonderful walking tour of Lisbon on May 27. Charlotte was excellent, both knowledgeable of the city, as well as friendly and conversational. In our small group setting (four people in our group), we were able to get to know each other and talk a lot about the different sites along the way. We had a great time, and will highly recommend your tours to others. Mike Willis

Hello, We were delighted withour general introduction tour of Lisbon. Despite the cold and rain (unusual for May), our tour guide, Pedro, was informative and lively. We all enjoyed our tour very much. Unfortunately, we were unable to return for the old town tour on Saturday, as we would have liked. We would highly recommend the tour to anyone visiting Lisbon! Katherine & Alain (France)

We have had a 4 hour citytour with Maria on May 15th 3010. We enjoyed the tour very much and Maria was a perfect tour guide for us in Lisbon ! So we give her the full 10 points :-))  Regards. Jens Wilke, Berthld Nemitz, Rainer Bleuel, Enzo Lorenzen, Klaus Laue, Ulf Luebben-Lorenz - Germany

Went on the Empire Walking Tour with Paulo on Sunday and we enjoyed every minute of it.  He was knowledgable, enthusiastic and answered all our questions.  We hope he'll be our guide on our next walking tour. Ken Durham

April 2010

Susie took us on the walking tour last Friday, and we just wanted to record how much we enjoyed it. Susie's commentary was really very interesting, and gave us a background to the city which added greatly to the enjoyment of our short stay in Lisbon. We shall recommend you to others, without a doubt! Thanks again, Susie. Kind regards
Sandra & Tom (Edinburgh)

I brought my husband for long weekend to Lisbon, as a gift for his 40th Birthday. We found insidelisbon.com on the web when we were planning what we would like to do, when we got there. We desided to go for the 'Original Lisbon' walking tour on our first morning. Paulo was our guide. Taking us everywhere (it seemed) we found Paulo to be really informative and knowlegable giving us more of his time than he probubly should have. There were 6 in the walking party, all strangers at first but by the end we were the best of friends, swapping email addresses to exchange photos etc. Having enjoyed that one so much we all desided to do the 'Gourmet' tour that afternoon/ evening. By the end of that tour we arranged to meet the following day for the Discovery tour!!! We found it fantastic value for money and there is no way we would have visited the same locations or learnt so much about Lisbons history had we tried to sight see on our own. We have fallen in love with Lisbon and can't wait to go back! We still have one trip left to do....so.... see you again Paulo and thank you for sharing our weekend with us!!
Kindest regards. Trish and Richard (Dublin, Ireland)

We took the Empire Lisbon Walk with Paolo and were so impressed with the city and the guide that we took the other two Lisbon walks (original and old). Paolo was our guide for the other two walks as well. He was very knowledgeable about the history and current life in Lisbon, and enthusiastic about his city and his job. He answered all our questions including tips about where to eat and do a fado evening. Thank you again!
Peter and Lorraine, Canadians

Hi! My wife and I did two tours last week ,one with Maria(Original Lisbon) and one with Paulo(Gourmet). Both tours were informative, entertaining  and greatly enhanced our visit to the city. The tours were also a great way of getting to know your way around the city and meant we didn't have to spend as much time standing at street corners staring at street maps. We would definitely use this company again. Kevin Stephens

My husband and I had the wonderful experience of having a walking tour of Old Lisbon with Paulo as our guide in March. This tour was the high point of our visit in the city. Paulo was informative, humorous, very knowledgeable about world history as well as  Portuguese. Also, Paulo was very personable and did all he could to make the tour memorable. It is a must for all visitors - Babs Prewett

Hi there, This comes to express my appreciation about the wonderful walking tour I attended. Paulo was a great guide, he loves Lisbon so much and he would pass this enthusiasm to us, I felt happy just being there in this beautiful city, with the beautiful people, with the great history and all. I heard things I would never have learned another way, I saw places I would never have seen another way. Besides the city, he also loves what he does, so, when the whole thing started taking longer than supposed to (we had questions on the very interesting things he shared with us), he just made sure we didn't mind and continued without hurrying or taking shortcuts. So, this is for him: Paulo really, thanks for everything. Because of your good work I decided to book the Sintra daytrip for the next day and this was great too (but there will be another email to thank Luis). :) I am also going to recommend you people to the Internet travel sites I'm a member of, so I'll keep in touch for the urls, you deserve it - Maria, Athens, Greece

Valeu! Lúcia, Natal, Brasil

2 March 2010

After finishing the 'Discovery' walking tour on November 29 of last year, Paulo asked the 3 of us participants to write a review. I had intended to do this much earlier but I misplaced the card he gave me and so I am responding very late to his request. In summary, this was an outstanding tour lasting nearly four hours and with exhaustive and entertaining commentary.  Quite apart from the 'tourism' aspects of the walk we were informed in depth about Portugal's colonial history from the discoveries until the end of the African conflicts.  I was enthralled throughout with the encyclopediac knowledge of our guide. The walk also inspired me to do some further rerading on my own and since returning from Lisbon I have purchased Disney's 'The Portuguese Empire' (volume 2), Saraiva's 'Portugal: A Companion History' and, more recently, a book on the Lisbon earthquake. Today I am also ordering a prose work, a book of verse and a travel book about Lisbon by Fernando Pessoa. Following Paulo's suggestion I obtained the dvd of "Tarde Demais" (not easy to find at all) but unfortunately I have been unable to get a copy of "Captains of April" which I think is now out of print. I had hoped to begin my touring in the centre of Lisbon but because of scheduling I had to start with the 'Discovery' tour. As it turned out I think one should do the 'Discover' tour first and then 'Original Lisbon' which picks up on the later history. 'Original Lisbon' was also conducted well by (I think) Jaoa. I also managed on a wet and windy December day to do the 'Sintra Cascais' tour by bus which, once again, was capably handled by a young German lady resident in Lisbon. All tours, then, were most satisfactory but I have spent most time on the 'Discovery' tour because I was specifically requested to do so.  In conclusion I must say the tours and Lisbon met my expectations fully. I very much like the city itself and the food is to die for if you have acquired a taste for Portuguese food. After 16 years' absence it was marvellous to return once more to Lisbon and to Portugal. I certainly intend to be back before another 16 years pass. That really would be 'Tarde Demais'. I hope that my review is not 'Tarde Demais' as well! Yours sincerely and thankfully,

We had a wonderful introduction to the food delights of Lisbon.  Charlotte was an expert on the food and best places to sample traditional Portuguese dishes.  We would not have ventured into some of the shops and restaurants on our own. Sampling fennel chocolate, gingha cherry wine, delicious port, local sausage and hams, seeing salted cod and dishes made form it made us more adventurous. We returned to the station restaurant for more of the local beer and had dinner the following evening.  We even queued up for the Trinidade Monastery restaurant on the Monday - before shrove Tuesday -  a public holiday! - to serve us the most delicious pork fillet steaks and bream we had ever tasted.  Charlotte was fluent in English and enjoyed her guiding - we learned so much about how to get about the city where to buy via cards and how to zap them so that we could get the most out of the fantastic public transport systems later in the week.  We also learned all about the history of Lisbon on the way around the city and famous places to visit.  What a fantastic start to our 5 day break.  A city tour not to be forgotten.  Food gives such an insight into the people, culture, geography and history of the country.

Hi! I had the VERY BEST tour - walking or otherwise - last Monday with Susy Ferreira! She had more information to share with me than we could fit into our morning's walk. After spending just a couple of hours in her company, not only did I now feel very comfortable walking around by myself, but I also felt that I had made a new friend. She told me Lisbon's story, and the city came to life. Please pass along my compliments.

Hello Inside,
I took your walking tour, original Lisbon on Tuesday, February 9, 2010. Though the tour was only two, myself and my daughter, the guide, Paulo was very professional and friendly with us, answering to our so many questions and providing appropriate advice to our private question. His guide definitely made our Lisbon stay valuable.

Thanks and regards,

Hola,

Just writing to say what a great experience I had taking two of your walking tours, The Original Lisbon Tour on Jan. 23 with I think the name was Mara, but I'm not certain. She was outstanding! Extremely informative. And then the next day I took the tour of Belem with I think his name was Paulo. This guy was unbelievable! Despite being under the weather, he showed me around and truly gave me an amazing history lesson. I was unaware of the incredibly rich history of the Portuguese. I am so thrilled that I decided to take them. Keep up the great work!

Hello

Quick and brief feedback for you about my solo walking tour with Paulo today. It was excellent. I was lucky to be the only customer, and so I got an individual tour and the undivided attention of Paulo. He answered every question, and in fact the tour was really one long conversation between him and me.  I would rate Paulo 9+ out of 10. He is very knowledgeable about the history, politics and culture of Lisbon. If I have any criticism at all, it is what we Americans call TMI ("too much information") about kings and bygone era events. There is an absolute limit to what a foreigner can absorb (or want to absorb), even someone with a Ph.D. -- like me. Other than that minor thing, I enjoyed every moment, especially when we talked of the current political, economic and cultural things, such as immigration, Portugal's role in the EU, and how Brazilians feel about Portugal today. Thus, if I would make any recommendation, I would suggest a big reduction in discussion about 1000-years ago history and a corresponding increase in current events and history of the last hundred years, such as Lisbon's role as an espionage center during World War II.

Best wishes to all. David

We had the most fabulous tour on 12/30.  Your guide was incredibly thorough, with both Portugal's history and what to see today.  Before we came, I had been given the impression that I would be disappointed, that Lisbon was not special or unique.  Your guide was so enthusiastic about your country that my opinion completely changed.  And as we traveled a bit in the country, we could connect what we saw with what he has said to us:  we went to Coimbra, Obidos, and Sentra.  Just wanted you to know that you made your country come alive and what we learned in Lisbon served us well as we traveled to other parts of Portugal.

Thanks so much for making our stay in Portugal very worthwhile.

Thanks again to Paulo for showing just 2 of us around Lisbon on a cold cold day. He was extremely knowledgeable and very friendly with lots of great historical facts thrown in and not any over the top comedy acts that some tour guides seem to dish out.

Hallo,
I took 3 differents tours with Inside Lisbon
- one in Spanish with Neos
(Original Lisbon) saturday 28/11/2009 in the morning
- two in English with Paulo:
(Gourmet Tour) saturday 28/11/2009 in the afternoon and
(Belem Tour) sunday 29/11/2009 in the morning

I am very satisfied, Paulo y Neos are very qualified (about the knowledge of History, Art and languages...), and pleasing.

I suggested to my friends, that are going to visit Portugal to use Inside Lisbon's tours because allow you to discover and to know Lisbon very well and in a different way !

Thank you very much... and as soon as possible I will send you some pictures!

Just a few words to say that I tremendously enjoyed this walking tour. It was just the right balance of historical facts and contemporary information. The whole thing was very relaxed, just like taking a walk through Lisbon with a very knowledgeable friend, I definitely saw hidden treasures that I would have never discovered on my own, particularly in the Alfama part of the walk, and the whole city past and present came to life in a way that made it unforgettable.

I love walking and I travel a lot, so whenever I can I go on walking tours, and this one was definitely one of the very best I've been on.

We did the Original Lisbon tour with Paulo the first day we arrived in Lisbon (26/10/09). It was almost 3.5hrs with just my girlfriend and I and we really enjoyed the detailed tour of the city. Paulo gave a lot of background of the city, history and the people.

The next day we took the Gourmet tour with Hugo and a new girl being trained as guide. Although there was some overlap with the Original tour, we learned new things and ate and drink at some nice places. We really like the Case do Alentejo, both for the style of the building, as well as the food at the end of the tour. We went back the last day to have lunch there but skipped dinner later as the portions are just too large.

We have just returned from our first visit to Lisbon and we wished to write and thank you for the fantastic tours which we enjoyed with you during our stay.
The Gourmet Tour is great fun and we so much appreciated the valuable insights into the culinary delights of the city and it's numerous restaurants as well as the culture of the Portugese people. The "sampling" is such a delight but even more exciting was the visits to some hidden treasures. We felt much better placed to launch into the local delicacies after our tour.
The Discovery Tour was absolutely fantastic. Not only did we enjoy visiting some great places around the waterfront but we felt that we had a priviledged insight into the history and rich culture of Portugal after sharing a few hours with a knowledgeable and enthusiastic tour guide.
An especially big "Thank You" to Paolo who was such fun  to share time with and for his patience in answering all of our questions.
These tours should be on every visitors "must do" lists!

The walking tours and the Fatima/Obidos tour we took were GREAT!  We had a wonderful time and our tour guides, Paulo and Louis were so knowledgable and their commentary during the tours enhanced our Lisbon/Portugal experience.
Thank you Paulo and Louis for taking the extra effort that enriched our holiday.  You both have a wealth of information on Portugal and other topics.  Louis, thanks for making the van ride fun with your selection of music and sharing your love for Salsa.
We highly recommend your tours to all visitors.

we did the Original Lisbon tour with Paulo. We were fortunate that day ! , first: a very small group, and scnd, it was Paulo who showed us around.
It def was a success, with lots of background info on Lisbon, (even on the nice old house that Paulo wanted to buy,but as usual didn't because of the one and only reason he had to succumb to....the opinion of his wife....)
 Great tour and interesting.

I just wish to express my gratitude to my guide on the Old Lisbon Tour held on August 18, 2009. I believe his name is Mr. Paulo. I was the only person in the tour, yet Mr. Paulo offered me an excellent tour and enriched my knowledge and passion towards Lisbon. I was very lucky to have a guide like him. I really like Lisbon and I will definitely recommend Inside Lisbon to my family and friends! Thank you for the great guidance and wish Inside Lisbon a continuous success in future!Best regards,

It's us, the 2 French Canadians Hugo and Caterina took on the gourmet tour today. We had an awesome time and we want to thank you both for this amazing experience. We sure learned a lot about Portuguese food, but more importantly about so much more about Portugal. This was an unforgettable opportunity to get an insider perspective about your beautiful country! This is a tour that we will never forget! Thanks! Un gros merci! Obrigado! Karen and Aglaée

We went on 'Old Lisbon' with Paulo on 8th August in the morning. It was so good that we went the same evening with him on the 'Gourmet' tour. We've never had a better guide in any city we have visited in any country.

We did the Gourmet Tour with Ricardo. He was fantastic. As nobody else came along it was a very personal tour with just the 2 of us and Ricardo. It was great being shown local eateries and tasting samples of local delicacies. We went back to all the places on the tour over the next few days to spend more time at them. They were great recommendations thank you.

took many walking tours in the past two weeks in Portugal and Spain, and the Inside Lisbon tours were the absolute best! I took the Original Lisbon tour on June 17—awesome! And then I took the Belem tour on June 21—another fabulous tour, a great mix of the past and present of Portugal! The guides totally went above and beyond—very enthusiastic and very knowledgeable. The groups were a great size, and I learned so much. I will definitely pass the word along about these great tours!

Paulo gave us a wonderful tour of Lisbon on Monday, and really opened up our experience of the city and Portugal. Your company was recommended by the hostel I stayed at during my short time in Lisbon (Albergo Odisseo hostel). I did two walking tours in Lisbon today, the Discovery tour of Belem with Paulo and the Original Lisbon tour with Suzy.
Both tour guides were excellent in their knowledge and skilled communicators. They were very welcoming of questions and gave lots of detail in their answers. Their passion for their city was catching, and they offered many tips on local food, drinks, activities etc to try. They were flexible in allowing time for photo stops etc, and neither tour felt rushed to finish in time.
They certainly made me wish that I was staying longer in Lisbon and I hope to come back one day. If I do, I will automatically choose to do another one of your tours or daytrips. I will have no hesitation in recommending your company to other people visiting Lisbon.
Congratulations on your excellent team!
Many thanks,
Carolyn (Australia)

What an amazing way to see the city. Having done the - impersonal - bus tour the previous day, we tried the walking tour. Much more customised to the interests of the group. Much more personal. Thanks to Paulo for his amazing knowledge and interest. Highly recommeded as the best way to 'see' a city.

To whom it may concern:
It has been almost a year, but I wanted to say that the tour my wife and I took with your company on 30.4.2008, "The Original Lisbon Walk" was exceptional!!!
The tour guide, Paulo, was outstanding!! Paulo was patient as well as well informed. Through his tour we were able to really appreciate Lisbon.
We highly recommend this tour to anyone who really wants to see Lisbon.

As promised, here's the photographic memory of the best walking tour I experienced in Europe thus far. I had Jo all to myself for 3 absolutely enjoyable hours. She was very knowledgeable, yet never boring. In fact, she is a very fun gal and her English is excellent. I would recommend any tourist in Lisbon to go for this tour, it's guaranteed to give a very good insight of the city. All the best to Jo!

Dear InsideLisbon tours,
I just came from Lisbon and have to share with you my excitement from the walking tour I took with Susy FERREIRA. The tour was interesting thanks to Susy, her knowledge and intelligence and love for the city. Being in Lisbon for 3 days, I decided that I want to know more and taking walking tour was the right decision. “Everything in details” somebody said and that what Susy shown me during the tour. She also went to local store and I tasted some fruit and she told me about Portugal tea and many more interesting things.
P.S. One suggestion – the guides should be more visible when they standing and waiting for tourists. And also I was waiting for 15 minutes next day because I want my husband to take this tour too but nobody shown up, so…we took another guide ( he also was excellent – I guess you all like Lisbon)

1-5-2009
Recently visited Lisbon and did four tours with you guys, the old Lisbon, original Lisbon, Gourmet & Sintra/Cascais day trip, all the tours were fantastic. Very interesting & all the guides were very friendly!!! Thanks so much. John from Ireland.

Hello, nice greetings from Germany. We would like to say thank you to Maria (Jose) and Paulo for the great tours we made through Lisbon last week. We really enjoyed these tours and learned so much. Even when it was raining on our second tour with Paulo he bravly showed us the city. Maybe we see us again, when we come back to Lisbon to drink a Super Bock at the Republica da
Cerveja. If you are coming to Germany, "Ruhr 2010" to Essen- capital of europeans cuture- let us know. All the best

A bit hestitant to try the salt cod? No idea how to pronounce ginjinha? With the gourmet tour, Paolo guided us through a range of tempting dishes and glasses and manged to feed us with Lisbon's history and cultural influences at the same time. The focus is on gourmet more than walking tour so you end up with tingling tastebuds rather than tired feet.

Dear all,
Let me sincerely thank all the company and especially Hugo and Katerina for very kind and individual approach! We had a whole day trip to Sintra and Cascais region in January 2009 and we got real pleasure and restful and unforgettable day!
Because:
- usually we use to feel tired in 30 minutes of too complicated explanations of guide and prefer prevalence of activities
- We are couple so looked for Individual schedule
- Also we use to keep budget (we’ve got the best offer in comparison with other tourist companies and additional discount for 2nd trip)
- We met friendly interaction and very attentive guide!
Our best wishes, hope to meet you again!

Recomendo e quero voltar!!

Hello!
Just wanted to let you know that we had an amazing time in Lisbon, and a big reason for this were the tours that we did - The original Lisbon walk and also the Discovery walk (last weekend, 12th and 14th Dec). We didn't have long in town and this was a great way to get the real feel for Lisbon - we were fascinated by the history of the city, its beauty, traditions, food and fado...
We must also say how brilliant our guide for both walks was - Paul. He was just fantastic. He was not only knowledgeable, but so entertaining too. We want to move to Lisbon now! Cannot recommend him enough, and he even went overtime (willingly) because we kept asking so many questions. LOVED IT! and will be coming back in summer to do the Gourmet Walk!
Cheers,
Courtney and James (students from Australia, but living in Germany)

Just a brief note to thank Tanya (hope name is spelled correctly) for the excellent tour last Sunday. Both myself and my wife Julie really enjoyed the tour and didn't really want it to finish! Even though this was our fifth visit to Lisbon (first in 1986 and last time 1994), we will be returning and learned an enormous amount on the tour.
Best wishes
Gareth + Julie Owen, Cardiff, Wales
P.S. Tanya - we're all delighted here in Wales following the Sprinboks' record win against England yesterday.

We took the Original Lisbon Walk on Saturday 1 November 2008. We thoroughly enjoyed the walk conducted by Paulo who enthusiastically conducted a very interesting and informative tour which lasted nearly 5 hours. Over and beyond the call of duty. We followed up some of Paulo's restaurant tips with great satisfaction.

Dear all, I’m pleased (finally I find time) to say thank you for very well organized, full of joy and positive emotions walk trip in Lisbon on 12 of September 2008. We had a group of colleagues from Russia, we’ve never been before in Portugal and this trip was a great discover for each of us! Sunny town, magnificent architecture, hospitable people… We did great work to find only by map unknown sights; became real command and got funny experience.
Thank to Hugo, Katerina and all you company!
Good luck!

My wife and I hade a wonderful walking tour Oct 28 2008 our tour guide was Susy Ferreia. IT was the old Lisbon Downhill Susy was great. Thank you Martin Francis

21-10-08
Susy Ferreia was the guide for a walking tour that my sister and I joined on 30/09/08. Susy was an excellent guide, very enthusiastic about the city and Portugal generally, she spoke excellent English and was very patient and also had a sense of humour. The party was small which made the experience an intimate one. My sister and I were late rejoining the group when we misjudged the time needed to use the lift and Susy was, even in this instance, patient and understanding, even though it must have been very irritating to have been delayed mid-tour. So, thank you to her and we would highly recommend as a guide to your lovely city.

Hi there
We wanted to compliment you on the wonderful guides we were fortunate to have on our 2 walking tours in Lisbon. The knowledge of and the passion for their city, bought your wonderful city alive to us and made out time in Lisbon one of our most memorable stays throughout five weeks in Spain and Portugal. Great thanks to Paulo on The Discovery Tour (17th Oct) , for giving us not only a thoughtful and interesting insight to this area, but a greater understanding of the achievements of the Portuguese over many centuries. Last but not least, we thank Paulo for sharing with us the decadent and delicious Belen tarts!!

My name is Joemil and I did the original Lisbon Walk Tour on October 6, 2008 3pm with Paulo. Paulo is an amazing tour guide. He covered all the details from History, Architecture, Economics, Industrial revolution, Which Museums to see and where to go for the best area for pictorial, Where to eat, Where to hang-out Etc. Etc. He was a lot of fun. I highly recommend him.

Good afternoon
Was in Lisbon from the 29 Aug for 10 marvellous days, and had the opportunity of doing an Original Walk tour of Lisbon with your tour guide Tania! I have been to Lisbon many times before but have never toured it like I did this time. Not only was it an absolutely amazing experience, but Tania was great! She walked and explained us so clearly through it all. It was a lovely tour, intimate and really worth the walk! Thank you to ‘Inside Lisbon Tours’ for this wonderfully original and even economic way to allow tourists to really feel the city in every one of it’s cultural and historical corners. And special thanks goes to our tour guide Tania who went out of her way to make the tour worth wanting to do again and who really shared with us, all her knowledge and enthusiasm for what definitely is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. Will definitely come back to see the rest! Obrigado

We'd like to thank Rita for our recent incredible Original Lisbon Walk. She was very friendly, easygoing, and full of fascinating, relevant facts about Portugal's history, people, and all the points of interest on the tour. We highly recommend this tour to everyone visiting Lisbon. Thanks, Judy and David Kelts, East Wenatchee, Washington, USA

Dear Sir/Madam
I have just returned from Lisbon where I did three of your tours. They were all remarkable value for money and extremely informative. The guides were excellent. Five stars to Paulo for the Original Lisbon Walk and to Susy Ferreira for the Old Lisbon Downhill walk. I was the only person for the Downhill Walk and Susy did a great job to entertain me and supply information.
Your tours will be one of the reasons I will return to Lisbon!
Thank you

Dear Paulo,
Just a brief note to thank you very much for making us ‘feel’ the real Lisbon. Your tours and information obtained during them were immensely helpful and educative. We were privileged to see some things that we would have certainly missed if we were making the tours of the town on our own. Impressions are still strong and coming in, and images of your beautiful town still alive... Looking forward to visiting Lisbon again and ‘discovering’ the spots that we missed, I send you my friendly regards from Serbia!

Hello,
We really enjoyed the discovery walking tour, as we probably wouldn't have explored that part of the city on our own. Paulo was very knowledgeable and we learned so much about Portuguese history. The Pastries was a real highlight for my girlfriend. Cheers Paulo

I had the privilege to be the only one walking on the old streets of Lisbon on this tour, so it was a very friendly tour and pleasant 3 hours. I really enjoyed all the sights, the glow of the restored buildings and had fun just observing the old stuff of the flea market ( I am not a buyer for that) I followed Paulo´s recommendation so in the afternoon I tried 2 original tastes of the city; pastel de nata and that sweet cherry liquor in Ginjinha bar. Thanks a lot , certainly I have to return to Lisbon reserving more time for taking walks and daytrips also.

My Wife and I went on The Original Lisbon Walk on the 18/7/08 with the guide being Paulo. I just wanted to say a big thank you for a marvellous tour, The amount of information Paulo relayed to us was impressive, unfortunately I am on able to remember parts of it but still it was cool to have a guide that was so interested in his country and city,a real history buff.

Hi we did the old town walking tour with Maria and the cycle trip round the expo site with Hugo. Both were brilliant, we got to see some wonderful places in Lisbon with excellent guides - the only way to get to know the city - very highly recommended tours. The cycle tour is an excellent idea for anyone wanting to try something different and see a part of Lisbon totally different from the Centre, fun, relaxing and car free - The aquarium out there is stunning - and an essential visit after the tour.

We enjoyed our 3 hour walking tour with Rita 21/07/08. She did a great job explaining the portuguese history and provided an enjoyable afternoon. I would recommed the tour. Thanks.

Paulo. Thank you very much for a very interesting tour on 25/07. Your tip with Fado restaurant in Alfama was very helpful. We loved it. Once the cook came out to sing (very impressively) and dance with the restaurant owner, we could not stop applauding :)

I stayed in Lisbon for 4 days between June 21st and June 25th. During that time, I took two tours - The Discovery Tour and the Original Lisbon Walk - with Paulo. Both tours were very well conducted; Paulo did his utmost to get the participants interested in the history and architecture of Lisbon and to keep them focused. I am somewhat of an architecture buff and, because of that, may be a little more sensitive than others to the mistaked made by guides on similar tours. In this particular case, I can only say that in Paulo I found one of the best city guides in a long time. I hope this feedback is useful.

I completely forgot to do this both times I was in Lisbon, but now I'm writing you.
I've been to Lisbon twice in the last year and each time I took The Original Lisbon Walk. The first time was with the tour guide Natasha, and I thought she was just fantastic. She made me absolutely love Lisbon by the end of that four hours. I loved it so much that I brought my husband back a few months later and did the same walk again. This time the tour guide was Edgar and he too was fantastic. And my husband now loved Lisbon just as much as I did after the four hours! I can't recommend it highly enough and the tour guides are so warm and knowledgeable. Now I tell everyone Lisbon is good for the soul. We're going back to Lisbon again this month. Thank you very very much and many successes to you in the future.

We did the Discovery Tour on Sunday June 22nd. Paulo is the perfect guide. Nothing was too much trouble for him, in fact he went out of his way to make sure we saw inside the Abbey and the beautiful cloisters which we might otherwise have missed. As it was so good we talked afterwards about joining the Sintra tour the next day but on checking our departure time found we would not have got back in time. Thank you very much

I just want to say that Paulo was the BEST walking tour guide EVER!! 14 euro was well worth it. I took the original lisbon walk with 2 friends on May 11, 2008. He was very informative and knowledgeable. His perfect English also helped. I was born in Macau, so Portugal's like my second country. I am so glad that I got to learn so much about Portugal from him.
Thanks Paulo!!!!

On May 8, 2008, we had the phantastic opportunity to take part in your Lisbon tour, and finally we would give (late) feedback. The Original Lisbon Walk with our guide was among the very highlights of our stay in Portugal. We saw so many things we would never have seen without this tour because they aren't in the guidebook or didn't seem interesting in the text. We were the only people on the tour this day, bad for you and the guide, but perfect for us. There was no word of complainment about the small membership, and the walk was wonderful. We saw most of the normal tourist attractions that could be reached within that short time, and a lot of things other tourists would never meet. Within three hours nobody could have seen more of Lisbon, and we didn't see only the wellknown highligts of the city, but also a lot of "normal life", and the guide (edgar.ch.f@gmail.com) offered us perfect background information. We'll come back one day, and we recommend this great tour to everybody to visit Lisbon! Many thanks and kind regards from Germany

This was a perfect, well-paced introduction to the city. A nice mix of history, trivia and specific information about places and sights. The Guide, Susy Fereir, was knowledgeable, amusing, and informative. I'd recommend the tour to my friends.

We had a great walking tour of the lovely Belem district with Susy, a thoughtful and knowledgeable guide. Ended the trip with a trip to the bakery selling custard tarts with a history…perfect.

I would like to offer my feedback on the Original Lisbon walk I took with your company on Monday just passed (7/4/8). The guide on the tour was Rita. Myself and my three friends thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Lisbon is obviously a beautiful city that has a long and interwoven history. We thought that Rita did an excellent job of explaining the intricacies of the city's (and indeed Portugal's) history. Her English was excellent and while remaining professional at all times she also made us feel very welcome and comfortable. We knew what we were doing, where we were going and why at all times and got to explore parts of the city that we probably wouldn't have known about without the guided tour. Despite the bad weather (a rain storm broke out about halfway through) Rita kept us all interested throughout and in the end getting wet didn't really matter at all. Thank you to you and your company for the tour and if my positive feedback could be passed on to Rita I would be very appreciative.

We had an excellent walking tour on 26 March with Paulo – The Original Lisbon Walk. We learned a lot, and found much inspiration for the rest of our visit to the city. We particularly enjoyed a meal at the Alentejo ‘club’ – would never have found it or realized it was open to the public, if it hadn’t been for the tour. Paulo managed to put the whole of the history of Portugal in a perspective that helped us understand how Lisbon evolved without burying us in information and was able to answer unrelated questions without losing his patience or his thread. The tour enhanced our visit and helped us use the remaining part of our short break wisely and enjoyably – our only regret is that we hadn’t the opportunity to do one of the other tours – maybe next time.

I enjoyed a wonderful Original Lisbon Tour on March 14 thanks to our knowledgeable guide Vanessa. Her enthusiasm was noticeable and she pointed out too many interesting places and historical references for me to mention here. I can highly recommend this tour as the best way to explore the central area of Lisbon. For your further information I shall be using some of the material gathered for a ‘Travel Spot’ in the next issue of my magazine Airports of the World. This will accompany a major feature on Lisbon Airport in the May/June issue. I shall make mention of the excellent tour and include your website details. Please find attached a couple of photos of Vanessa, including one of her talking to other members of the party. If you require higher resolution photos just let me know as these are heavily reduced in size.
